The great path to immunity from COVID-19 is underway with the biggest vaccination campaign in history around the world. More than 234 million doses have been administered across 117 countries, according to data collected by the Financial Times.
In the Caribbean region, over 213,000 doses have been administered already. Saba, Cayman Islands, Bermuda, Anguilla and Sint Eustatius are the top five islands which have administered the most shots by population.
Literally, all vaccination plans in the region are first focusing on frontline workers, vulnerable and senior persons. Several islands are awaiting the arrival of their first batch of vaccines.
The dominant vaccines in the region are Oxford-AstraZeneca and Pfizer-BioNTech. Two doses are needed several weeks apart for full protection. The Caribbean’s very own Cuba is producing its own vaccine called Soberana 02.
The following infographic is the first of several charts which will be produced by Caribbean Update. Not all information is readily available. More information on vaccination in the Caribbean will be provided very soon.
