Grenada reported first Covid-19 death, USVI reports its 24th death today

Grenada has reported its first death from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Sunday. This new death was confirmed by Grenada’s Health Minister Nicholas Steele and the story is just developing.

Meanwhile, the Virgin Islands Department of Health for the United States Virgin Islands on Sunday announced the territory’s 24th COVID-19 related death. The deceased is a 78-year-old woman from the island of St. Croix.

There are only six Caribbean countries and territories, namely; Anguilla, Dominica, Saba, Sint Eustatius, St. Kitts & Nevis and St. Vincent and the Grenadines which have not reported any deaths from COVID-19 since the pandemic commenced in the Caribbean region.

Over 5,850 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported across 28 Caribbean islands to date. A total of 37 of the Bahamas’ 227 deaths listed on their COVID-19 dashboard are classified as “non-COVID-19 related” while another 15 is under investigation.
