Mark J. Golding is elected the new President of the People’s National Party in Jamaica

Mark Jefferson Golding, Member of Parliament for St. Andrew Southern, has defeated Member of Parliament for South East St. Ann and beauty queen Lisa Hanna in an internal election on November 7, 2020 becoming the 6th president for the People’s National Party.

MP Golding who is also a leading Jamaican attorney, businessman and investment banker beats Hanna for the presidency in a resounding victory where he polled 1,740 delegate votes to defeat Lisa Hanna who polled 1440.  There was a 96% voter turnout amongst delegates.

Golding will take over from Dr. Peter Phillips, who lost the September 3 General Elections in a landslide defeat by the Jamaica Labour Party led by the Most Honourable Andrew Holness. 

General Secretary Julian Robinson made the announcement of the election result at the PNP’s Old Hope Road headquarters after receiving the result from the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) who conducted the election process.

The 82-year-old party other presidents were Norman Manley, his son Michael Manley, Percival James (PJ) Patterson, Portia Simpson-Miller and Dr. Peter Phillips.
