No Agreement Reached for Funding from the Netherlands

Aruban Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes stated yesterday that Aruba and the Netherlands still have not reached an agreement in relation to providing finance for the country.   Should no agreement reached with the Kingdom Council of Ministers, Aruba’s greatest financial need must now be met by international financing stated Prime Minister Wever-Croes.  However, Aruba and the Netherlands will continue to negotiate and the Prime Minister emphasized that she hopes that an agreement can eventually be reached.  The situation is that the Netherlands will provide funds if Aruba agrees to their conditions.   However, Aruba is on the path of rejecting the demands of the Dutch government since it may have an option to seek loan financing from international sources.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases continue to increase in Aruba with 2,898 positive cases reported since the pandemic commenced on the island.  A total of 1,429 persons have recovered and 18 persons deceased.  In hospital are 44 persons of which 12 are in the intensive care unit.
