Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg, just announced via Facebook that the platform is back up now with WhatsApp and Instagram to follow.
“Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger are coming back online now. Sorry for the disruption today — I know how much you rely on our services to stay connected with the people you care about.” – Mark Zuckerberg stated.

Previous Post: Facebook along with its Instagram and WhatsApp platforms suffered a worldwide outage on Monday that has extended more than three hours with service yet to be restored. Internal systems used by Facebook employees also went down.
The company did not say what might be causing the outage, which began around 11:40 a.m. ET. Websites and apps often suffer outages of varying size and duration, but hourslong global disruptions are rare according to AP News.
The outage comes just hours after a Facebook Inc (FB.O) whistleblower on Sunday accused the social media giant of repeatedly prioritizing profit over clamping down on hate speech and misinformation.
Haugen worked as a product manager on the civic misinformation team at Facebook, appeared on Sunday on the CBS television program “60 Minutes,” revealing her identity as the whistleblower who provided the documents that underpinned a Wall Street Journal investigation and a Senate hearing on Instagram’s harm to teen girls. She stated that her lawyers have filed at least eight complaints with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
“There were conflicts of interest between what was good for the public and what was good for Facebook,” Haugen said during the interview,” adding that Facebook has lied to the public about the progress it made to clamp down on hate speech and misinformation on its platform.
Regarding the internet outage today, the last major one, which knocked many of the world’s top websites offline in June, lasted less than an hour and was blamed on a software bug.
Facebook tweeted today that “some people are having trouble accessing (the) Facebook app” and that it was working on restoring access. Meanwhile, Instagram head Adam Mosseri tweeted that it feels like a “snow day.”
Nearly 3 billion users have been impacted by the outage. It shows just how much the world has come to rely on social media to connect with people and conduct business. The cause of the outage remains unclear.
