SANTO DOMINGO – Dominican Minister of Public Health, Plutarco Arias, informed on Wednesday that the greatest number of infections is carried out by young people who carry the disease to their homes. He indicated that this population transmits 65% of infections.
“We are talking that 65% of our young people are those who are transmitting the disease from the street to the houses, please keep your distance, hugs the grandparents, let’s save it this time, we will avoid the crowds”, requested the Minister.
According to epidemiological bulletin 272, some 15,362 children under 20 years of age have been infected with coronavirus.
During his speech at the presentation of the Christmas operational plan “Commitment for Life 2020-2021, Arias reminded the population that preventing the spread of COVID-19 is everyone’s commitment.
“Remember that the commitment is of everything, it is yours and it is mine, the Dominican Government fulfills its responsibility, the Ministry of Public Health is in charge together with the COE of these activities of commitment for life, but we are reiterative in the need for the community to empower itself in this fight against COVID-19,” said the minister.
He stressed that Christmas is never the same when there is this type of event, so the commitment not to lower our guard is important especially because the country is about to receive the vaccine against COVID-19. The Minister called on the neighborhood councils, mayors and governments to join en masse in the fight against the coronavirus.
On the other hand, the minister clarified that the National Laboratory Doctor Defilló has PCR tests, but they understand that they are exhausted in private centers because people attend en masse, on many occasions unnecessarily, so he exhorts people to only get tested if they need it. Similarly, he indicated that they will soon have more PCR tests, referring to a donation made by Germany.
